Outdoors in Shady Cove
Lost Creek Lake
Lost Creek Lake is a reservoir on the Rogue River in Jackson County, Oregon. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the dam, finished in 1977 and now named the William L. Jess Dam. Wikipedia says its primary purpose is flood control, and that it also stores water for summer use, generates hydroelectric power and cools river water for fish. At full pool the lake covers about 3,430 acres.
Wikipedia lists boating, trout and smallmouth bass fishing, a 20-mile lakeshore trail, and camping at Joseph H. Stewart State Park. Check Oregon State Parks for current information and fees before you go.
The road to Crater Lake
Oregon Route 62 is the main road through Shady Cove. From Medford, the National Park Service says to follow Highway 62 to Crater Lake National Park's West Entrance. It describes the West Entrance as open year-round, and says chains or snow tires may be required in winter. For road conditions use TripCheck, the state's road report.
